Exploring the invisible, bizarre, and terrifying world of biology.
Bacterium is an educational YouTube channel dedicated to the strangest, most dangerous, and most fascinating organisms on Earth. From microscopic parasites that rewire the brains of their hosts, to deep-sea creatures that shouldn't be able to exist by the known rules of biology, we tell the real scientific stories behind the invisible world that surrounds every one of us.
Every week, we release in-depth video essays exploring six creatures or phenomena united by a single theme — parasites, viruses, pandemics, fungi, spiders, deep-sea organisms, extinct pathogens, and more. Each episode is researched from peer-reviewed sources and published scientific literature, then adapted into a long-form narrative accessible to anyone curious about biology, evolution, and the limits of life.
Our videos focus on real species and real science. Topics include parasites that hijack animal behavior, viruses that have shaped human history, pandemics that nearly ended civilizations, fungi that control the brains of insects, deep-sea creatures that break the rules of biology, and the microorganisms living inside the human body right now. Every claim in every video is traceable to published scientific research, documented case reports, or peer-reviewed studies.
We cover both famous and obscure organisms — the ones you've heard about in horror stories, and the ones most people don't even know exist. The common thread is that they are all real, all documented, and all weirder than fiction.
Bacterium publishes content in two languages:
Bacterium was created to make rigorous biology accessible without sacrificing scientific accuracy. We combine the fascination of nature documentaries with the depth of scientific investigation. Our audience includes biology students, researchers, educators, and anyone with a curiosity about the hidden mechanisms of life — from the microscopic scale to the planetary one.
The project is independently produced and researched. Each video involves multiple weeks of research, scripting, voice production, and video editing to ensure both scientific accuracy and narrative quality. We do not publish speculation presented as fact, and we do not sensationalize beyond what the science itself already supports.
